The correct screen mechanism depends on room use, installation constraints and the level of flatness required. Each format solves a different problem.
Fixed Frame Screens
A fixed frame keeps the surface continuously tensioned and ready to use. It is a strong choice for dedicated cinemas, permanent UST installations, control rooms and presentation spaces with a dedicated display wall.
Advantages include reliable flatness, simple operation and easy integration of optical surfaces. The tradeoff is that the screen remains visible at all times and requires suitable wall space.
Motorized Drop-Down Screens
A motorized screen retracts into a case when not in use, allowing a room to support multiple functions. Cases may be surface mounted or recessed into a ceiling.
Standard non-tensioned models are practical for many business applications. Tab-tension systems provide better edge control where image geometry and surface flatness are more demanding.
Floor-Rising Screens
Floor-rising screens extend upward from a cabinet or portable housing. They are useful where wall or ceiling mounting is not permitted, including rented spaces, historic interiors, executive rooms and flexible UST installations.
Placement is easy to change, but the housing needs stable floor or furniture support and adequate clearance.
Comparison by Application
- Dedicated home cinema: fixed frame for maximum simplicity and flatness.
- Multipurpose meeting room: motorized or recessed screen.
- Temporary showroom: floor rising or portable screen.
- UST laser TV: fixed frame or tensioned floor-rising CLR/Fresnel system.
- Rental and staging: fast-fold screen rather than a domestic motorized format.
Electrical and Control Planning
Motorized products require confirmation of voltage, plug, motor position and control method. EU, UK and US plugs and 110 V or 220–240 V configurations should be specified before production. Integration may require triggers, relays or dry contacts.
Packaging and Access
Screen cases and frame rails can be long. Check doorway, elevator and delivery access before approving large sizes. Export packaging and pallet requirements also affect freight cost.
